Blue-Sky Program
The Blue-Sky program at Creative Art Therapy Australia provides therapeutic creative interventions tailored to palliative individuals and their loved ones, individuals experiencing loss and grief, and those faced with suicide ideation. In the Blue-Sky program, participants are immersed in a supportive environment where meaning-making becomes a transformative tool for processing complex emotions. These sessions are not only customised but are especially pivotal for those in palliative care, offering a secure space to navigate the unique challenges of grief, fear, anger, and sadness without the need for words. Participants and their families are encouraged to engage in goal-oriented art sessions, which foster emotional connections and release. This not only aids in the healing process but also supports the creation of legacy pieces that commemorate individual stories and shared experiences.
Legacy work is particularly impactful for families facing life-threatening conditions as it enables individuals and families to take agency and control over their personal and collective narratives. The program integrates embodied work to explore trauma through sensory experiences, expanding beyond immediate emotional needs. The holistic outcomes of the Blue Sky program are centred on meaning-making and personal enrichment. Through meaning-making, participants revisit and reflect upon their life experiences, both positive and challenging, fostering profound connections and renewed narratives. The collaborative and participatory nature of the art-making process strengthens bonds and reinforces a community of support vital for those navigating significant emotional and psychological challenges.
As a resource, the program can be delivered in clinical and non-clinical settings and integrated within existing pathways to care. Reach out here to talk to our Creative Arts Therapist Coordinator on the next steps in end-of-life mental health support.
