Creative Arts Therapy with Children and Young People.
When words are not enough…there is creative arts therapy.
Research has found creative arts therapy has been linked to positive outcomes for children and young people, improving their social and emotional health and wellbeing. Creative arts therapy uses non-verbal creative processes, such as drawing, painting, collage, drama, dance and movement, and sculpting, to support children and young people to safely express their feelings, thoughts, and emotions.
Creative arts therapy can support children and young people to:
- Process and express feelings about difficult situations.
- Offer a sense of control and mastery.
- Ease grief and loss.
- Reduce anxiety and depression while building resiliency.
- Increase self-awareness and sense of identity.
- Improve self-esteem.
- Enhance problem-solving and coping skills.
- Foster creativity and imagination.
- Promote communication and social skills.
- Reduce stress and improve emotional regulation.
CATA’s registered creative arts therapists support children and young people to further explore the psychological and emotional representations in their creative arts making, such as nonverbal messages, metaphors, and symbols, supporting them to make purposeful meaning and connections from their creative arts processes.
We provide personalised one-on-one creative arts therapy sessions as well as group creative arts therapeutic programs for children and young people. Our creative arts therapy sessions run for at least 60 minutes and are supported by a registered creative arts therapist in a safe, nurturing environment. Our one-on-one art therapy sessions can be held in the comfort of your own home, at our Fairfiled HQ or remotely via Telehealth. The choice is yours.
Our creative arts therapists are experienced in working with children and young people with a range of health and wellbeing concerns. And if your child or young person has an NDIS plan, creative arts therapy can be accessed as part of their plan.
