CATA Brouchre

According to recent statistics, approximately 1 in 7 children and adolescents aged 4-17 in Australia experienced a mental health disorder in the past 12 months. This equates to approximately 560,000 young people across the country.

The most common mental health disorders among school children and adolescents in Australia are anxiety disorders, affecting approximately 6.9% of young people, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), affecting approximately 6.3% of young people.

Given the significant mental health challenges facing children and adolescents in Australia, CATA provides intervention strategies to support the emotional and mental well-being of young people in schools by integrating creative processes that promotes emotional literacy, resiliency and self-confidence.  According to recent statistics from Beyond Blue, approximately 1 in 35 young Australians aged 12-17 experienced suicide ideation in the past 12 months.  With this in mind, CATA helps students express their concerns in a healthy and constructive way utilising trauma informed and person-centred practice. Many children and young people find it difficult to navigate through mental health challenges, particularly if they are experiencing difficult emotions such as sadness, anger, or anxiety. By providing a creative method of communication that promotes self-discovery, choice, agency and control, CATA can help students develop internal resources in a safe drop-in space and supportive environment.

Our Programs

Our Creative Arts Therapy programs are a valuable addition to the school environment, providing students with a safe and supportive space to explore their emotions, develop agency, and improve their mental health and well-being. CATA tailors school programs to meet the needs of the students in context with the wider school environment and are facilitated by experienced and qualified Creative Arts Therapists.
